FREE SHAMPOO

About a year ago I decided I there were 2 things I would never pay for again. The two things are shampoo/conditioners and deodorant. I am going to tell you how I have managed to not pay for shampoo for this long.

1. There are many sites that offer free samples. I always sign up for free samples. The samples sizes are great for traveling or using the guest bathroom.

2. Look for "try me free" tags. Over the past year I have purchased tons of bottles that say try me free. You send the rebate for a full refund and walk out with an expensive bottle of shampoo. Most will send you checks for the cost however some do send gift cards. I have a gift card that I use when purchasing shampoos with rebates so it doesn't come out of my monthly shopping expenses.

3. Sign up when sites off free bottles of shampoo. Last year I received a full size bottle of shampoo and a bottle of conditioner from Aveeno. I don't remember the site but I was happy to receive the shampoo.

4. Instant rebates or whatever you call them at CVS. Sometimes CVS will sell a shampoo for $4.00. It will give you cvs bucks back for $4.00, making the item free. If you were going to buy advil for example, you could use the $4.00 from the shampoo on the advil, making the shampoo technically free.

Although this doesn't seem like it will save you money, I have managed to avoid buying shampoo for over a year and I am so happy. Some brands of free shampoo I've received. Pantene, Organix, Renpure organic, Axe shampoo and body wash (all in one), vitamin shampoo, sunsilk, aveeno, giovanni, etc...

Happy Savings!

PANERA LOYALTY CARD

Panera Bread is introducing a customer loyalty card in some states.

After registering the card online, you get a free pastry (loaded on the card).

You also get a second free treat on your birthday. (I can confirm this, because I went today to get my free pastry for signing up, and also on the card was credit for my free pastry for my birthday.)

In my local Panera Bread, an advertisement for these cards is in the middle of the display table that is near the doors and has cellophane-wrapped bread loaves and things on it. You can pick up a brochure about the program from the table, and then ask a cashier for the physical card.

NAME YOUR OWN PIRCE

A great way to get good deals on your hotel accommodations is through www.priceline.com
They have this name your own price option where you can choose the area you want the hotel to be and the price you to pay. You can select the area based on the area map provided, landmarks or streets addresses. Also, you can choose how many stars you want your hotel to be. If a hotel accepts your price you, then you are all set. I have never paid more then $50 for a hotel. My stays are usually at nice hotels like 4 points, Marriott, etc... I have never had this happen, but if you choose a price that is too low, you will be informed that no one accepted your price.

Things you need to know:
You have to give your credit card information. If they accept your price you are in a binding contract and will be charged for the days/rooms you requested. There is an insurance that you can pay extra for in case you have to change the dates or cancel in the future. If you add days later, you may not guarantee the same place.

To start naming you own price for your next vacation go here!

STEPS TO MAKE YOUR OWN BOUQUET

Yesterday I posted how pictures of a bouquet I made. Just as a reminder here is the picture:

I wanted to share how easy it is to make your own bouquet.

Step 1: Decided on the flowers and ribbon you want to use in your bouquet. I used Cala lilies and I forget what the green long leaves were called.

Step 2: Soak flowers in water with plant food until ready to use. (You do cut off a little of the bottom so it soaks in the plant food and water)

Step 3: Cut down the flowers to the height of your choice. I wanted the flower to hang past the part the bride holds.

Step 4: Arrange the flowers the way you want them to look.

Step 5: Secure the flowers in place. I used rubber bands to hold the flowers in place until I went around it with floral tape. You can skip this step if you choose to.

Step 6: Floral tape the area you want to put the ribbon around.

Step 7: Start wrapping your ribbon the design pattern of choice. ( I used non-wired fabric ribbon, however you can use wired ribbon if you prefer.) I did a simple tight spiral pattern.

Step 8: Secure the ribbon with floral pins/ straight pins. I used white pearl pins to go with the theme. I decided to do a straight line down of white pearls. (When you put the pins in, make they go upwards in a way that won't poke the bride when she holds the flowers.

Step 9: Spray the flowers with hair spray so they won't wilt before the pictures. Our flowers suffered a little but in my defense we had an 8 hour drive with those flowers
:-)

It may seem like a lot of work, but it really isn't.

THE WEDDING BOUQUET I MADE

A few weeks ago I was invited to a wedding. One the road trip to NY, our friend who was riding with us and is also the wedding planner asked if I would make the bouquet of flowers for the bride. I have never made a bouquet before but I decided to take on the challenge. Here is the results of my experience:

Here is the picture of the bride and groom with friends:

What do you think? There is a bow at the bottom but my hubby didn't get a good pic of the bouquet. Tomorrow I will post how to make your own bouquet.

Random deals

Deals:

Yesterday I went to Giant to get groceries and the red seedless grapes were on sale for $1.99 lb. I got a bag. As I was leaving I noticed I was charged $2.99 so I went to customer service. When I went to them, they decided to take the price down because it wasn't coming up in the system. :-/ how sad! The guy gave me a full refund for the grapes and grapes for free! I don't know if that is store policy because that has never happened before, however the guy that gave the refund was the store manager.

Today I went to target. While there I saw the 12 pack of gushers marched down to $2.02 a box. They were discontinuing the bigger sizes. My husband loves gushers so I grabbed all I could find.

Wet Seal Deals

On Thursday a friend and I went to the mall. She wanted to check out wet seal, a store I normally walk in but don't look at anything. I don't know why, but I always had in my head that nothing fits me. Maybe because of a previous experience, who knows?! As she is looking around arms filled with stuff she wants to try on, I decided to snoop around the clearance section, my favorite section. I see a bunch of boots that are marked down to $3.00! Wow, I was shocked! I found my size, but only in one for the 4 types of boots on clearance, try them on and decide to get them. I also find these cute bangles marked down to $0.50.

Then I walk around the other side of the clearance rack and where there was a million pairs of jeans marked down to $5.00. I'm not sure why but I figured I would just look to see if something comes in my size. To my suprise they had a few styles in my size. I build up the courage to try on the jeans, they fit perfectly. Walked out of a store that I would never enter alone with 2 pairs of a jeans, boots and bangles. Here is a pic:

So here is the numbers:

The boots paid: $3.00 was: $39.50
The jeans(2) paid: $5.00 each was: $24.50 each
The bangles paid: $0.50 was: $7.50

Total oop: $14.18 Total before savings $96.00
Savings $81.82
