A great way to get good deals on your hotel accommodations is through www.priceline.com
They have this name your own price option where you can choose the area you want the hotel to be and the price you to pay. You can select the area based on the area map provided, landmarks or streets addresses. Also, you can choose how many stars you want your hotel to be. If a hotel accepts your price you, then you are all set. I have never paid more then $50 for a hotel. My stays are usually at nice hotels like 4 points, Marriott, etc... I have never had this happen, but if you choose a price that is too low, you will be informed that no one accepted your price.
Things you need to know:
You have to give your credit card information. If they accept your price you are in a binding contract and will be charged for the days/rooms you requested. There is an insurance that you can pay extra for in case you have to change the dates or cancel in the future. If you add days later, you may not guarantee the same place.
To start naming you own price for your next vacation go here!

Wet Seal Deals
On Thursday a friend and I went to the mall. She wanted to check out wet seal, a store I normally walk in but don't look at anything. I don't know why, but I always had in my head that nothing fits me. Maybe because of a previous experience, who knows?! As she is looking around arms filled with stuff she wants to try on, I decided to snoop around the clearance section, my favorite section. I see a bunch of boots that are marked down to $3.00! Wow, I was shocked! I found my size, but only in one for the 4 types of boots on clearance, try them on and decide to get them. I also find these cute bangles marked down to $0.50.
Then I walk around the other side of the clearance rack and where there was a million pairs of jeans marked down to $5.00. I'm not sure why but I figured I would just look to see if something comes in my size. To my suprise they had a few styles in my size. I build up the courage to try on the jeans, they fit perfectly. Walked out of a store that I would never enter alone with 2 pairs of a jeans, boots and bangles. Here is a pic:

So here is the numbers:
The boots paid: $3.00 was: $39.50
The jeans(2) paid: $5.00 each was: $24.50 each
The bangles paid: $0.50 was: $7.50
Total oop: $14.18 Total before savings $96.00
Savings $81.82

skin care
amiyrah from 4 hats and frugal post this a while back and I wanted to share this.
This is from the March issue of "LiveRight with Shop Rite," a monthly magazine that my grocery store puts out.
You know how much I love frugal ways to stay beautiful, so when I ran across this, I knew I had to share. Even if this isn't your "deal," these would make wonderful Mother's Day gifts. Take a peek at your local beauty supply store and find cute little jars to put them in.
Normal Skin: Mix 1 cup oatmeal, cornmeal, or wheat germ with 1 teaspoon light oil, such as almond or sunflower, in a blender or food processor until a coarse paste forms. Massage into damp skin, and rinse.
Dry/Sensitive Skin: Mix 1 tablespoon superfine Baker's Sugar or baking soda and 1 tablespoon canola oil into a paste. Rub into skin for 30 to 60 seconds. Remove with a warm, wet washcloth.
Oily Skin: Grind the peels from 2 to 3 oranges in a food processor and mix with an equal amount of cream of wheat, ground oatmeal, or cornmeal. Massage into damp skin, and rinse with cool water.
Aging Skin: Finely grind 2 to 3 almonds(or walnuts) into a food processor. Add 1 teaspoon honey and enough drops of milk to create a thick paste. Rub into damp skin, and rinse with warm water.
Body Scrub: Mix 2 tablespoons granulated salt or sugar with 2 tablespoons light oil. Massage mixture into skin from the neck down before bathing. Posted by Amiyrah at 9:03 AM

Dollar Deals
Today I went to The dollar store today and these are the deals I found.
I know you have seen these on t.v. the closet genie. I found these two packs of closet genies for $1.00. I have been wanting to try the closet genie since I saw the commerical, now I can.
I also found a 5 pack of body wash sponge things. Usually I buy thse for $0.99 each, every now and then I get lucky and find them 2 for $1.00. But this is like $0.20 a piece.
I also found this cappicinio mix. I am not a big fan of food from the dollar store, though I do try things out every now and then. I did try this out in my first attempt at making a frappicinio and it was actually really good. They always have this stuff in stock.
I found these glittery and fuzzy gift bags, 2 for $1.00 They don't look like bags you would find at the dollar store.
I also found those fake tealight candles, 2 pack for $1.00. I bought these once before from micheal's and was soo disappointed that the lights were so dim and it didn't look like they worked. The pack I had purchased wasn't cheap so I returned it. I bought 1 pack because I didn't want to be stuck with all these fake tealights if they didn't work. I need 5 for a wall decoration I have up. These worked 10 times better then the ones I bought before. I will return to buy the rest from the dollar store.
My out of pocket expense was $6.36

Davids Bridal Deals
Now that it has stopped snowing, I am able to drive around and enjoy frugal shopping! The other day I went out to Davids Bridal to see what deals I could find. Davids Bridal had a sale going on that all clearance items were an extra 50% off the lowest price. This sale includes wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, shoes, purses and other accessories. I figured I would check through their selection to see what I could find. I am invited to an upcoming engagement party this weekend and a wedding this summer. Although there wasn't much of a selection left, I found the following items:
I found a really cute pair of strappy black dress sandals. I don't know why, but I don't have any dressy black shoes.
I paid $9.99, originally $59.99
Also, I found a red top from those David's bridal separates.
I paid $4.99, originally $59.99 which I think is a great deal.
The top wasn't supposed to be that cheap. The top was supposed to be marked down to $19.99 plus and extra 50% off making it $9.99. The manager did fight me a little about letting me buy it for that price, but it isn't my problem. I got the top.
Total Value Before Tax: $119.98
Total out of pocket: $15.88
Savings of: $104.10

How to Use Used Clothes in a Variety of Ways
How to Use Used Clothes in a Variety of Ways
Fabric is a great resource! Be sure to save your old clothes. You never know when you'll be struck with a good idea. Here are some great ways to reuse your fabric:
Make new clothes. Make something that doesn't require a lot of fabric, such as a tube top or halter top. Combine fabrics for a patchwork garment
.
Make fabric accessories. Make headbands, hair ties, bracelets, necklaces or belts. Stitch a long strip of fabric together and turn it inside out. Braid strips of fabric.
Make winter accessories. Make a hat, scarf and mittens from an old sweater.
Make a miniskirt. Cut off the top of a long t-shirt. Cut horizontally just below the sleeves. Turn the raw edge over twice to form a waistband. Insert elastic or use a ribbon as a drawstring.
Make patches. Add colorful patches to your blue jeans or jean miniskirt. Add an extra pocket to the inside of your coat.
Make toys. Make a set of doll clothes or stuffed animals. Make bean bag chairs for the kids.
Cover a special book. If fabric has sentimental value, use it to cover a scrap book, journal or photo album.
Make a picture frame. Layer cardboard into the shape of a frame. Cover each piece with fabric as it's being glued and assembled.
Cover a lampshade. Pleat and glue fabric onto a lampshade. Glue a row of decorative ribbon to the top and bottom of the shade to cover the raw edges of the fabric. Add a row of dangling, sparkling beads to the lower edge of the shade.
Cover a corkboard. Use a large piece of fabric to cover the front and sides of a corkboard. Secure the fabric in place with glue at the back of the board. Add notes and messages to the board with a stick pin or common pin.
Make a quilt for your bed. Add a pretty eyelet bedskirt and matching shams.
Make new curtains. Make a simple valance for the top of a window. Add a small drawn curtain, to the lower part of the window, made with a different fabric.
Wrap small presents. Cut fabric into a circle or square with pinking shears to create a cute zig zag edge. Gather all sides of the fabric around your gift and secure it with a ribbon. This creates a beautiful package for soaps, sachet and other small items.
Create a rectangular gift bag. Cut fabric into a long, wide strip. Fold the strip in half. Stitch the side seams. Use pinking shears to trim the top of the bag. Secure the top of the bag with a ribbon. This creates a beautiful package for a bottle of wine or a bouquet of flowers.
Make a big cushion for your dog. Use fabric from flannel shirts and stuff the cushion with scrap fabric.
Use fabric for cleaning. Make plenty of dust cloths. The edges of the fabric do not need to be finished. Cut frayed edges as needed.

HAPPY NEW YEAR/ FREECYCLE
Happy New year! I hope 2010 is filled with savings for you.
To start off the new year I figured I would tell you about freecycle and how awesome it is in helping you live a frugal life.
What is Freecycle?
Freecycle is a yahoo group that helps people recycle the things they no longer want or need. Members in the group post items they would like to give away and others that are interested can contact the person directly. Also, it allows you to ask others for items you are looking for.
Freecycle Mission Statement:
Our mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community.
In every city, there is a freecycle group or a group in a surrounding city that you may join. It is free to join and all items received are free.
A lot of items I have at home, I have freecycle to thank for. tables, decor, lamps, storage items, etc. I have also been able to pass along tons of items that I just no longer wanted. The best part is even broken items that I thought were trash I have posted on freecycle and people have been eager and willing to take my items. As the saying goes "Your trash is another person's treasure." You have to make sure to let everyone know that the items are broken.
To get more information about freecycle or to find a local freecycle group go to:

Cardboard TP Ideas

It's sunday!!! So here is our cool idea of the week. Another cool halloween or anytime idea.
Hand Print Spider Craft
You can make a variety of spiders using these directions, a toilet paper roll, and hand prints. Bugs can be hung from the ceiling on a string or piece of thread or taped to the wall to look like they are crawling.
•Age Guideline: 3 Years and Up
•Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)
The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.
Materials Needed:
•Toilet Tissue Roll
•Construction Paper
•Wiggle Eyes
•Pen or Pencil
•Paint
•Stapler
•Craft Glue
•Paint Brush
•Scissors
Instructions:
Start out by stapling both ends of the toilet tissue roll closed. Paint the toilet tissue roll black or whatever color you want your bug to be as this will be the bug's body.
While the paint is drying, trace both hands onto construction paper. Cut out the hand prints, cutting off the thumbs so there will be just the four fingers. These will be the spider's legs.
Glue each hand to the back of the toilet paper roll so there are four legs on each side of the body. Curl the bug's legs under a little bit to give them a little bit of shape.
You can now glue on wiggle eyes and also use scraps of construction paper to make a mouth, teeth or fangs, and any other details you want!
This project was found here!

Blue's Clues Dog Costume
Since we are only a few weeks away from Halloween, I figured I would post an idea for a homemade costume for the little ones.
Blue's Clues Dog Costume
Dress up as everyone's favorite clue-sniffing hound with this blue dog costume. This craft is fun for kids to get involved with and they feel a real sense of accomplishment wearing the finished outfit.
What you'll need:
Blue's Clues Hat (see below for link)
Blue sleeper or sweat suit
Dark blue felt
Scissors
Sewing machine
Blue thread
Blue gloves
How to make it:
Create the Blue's Clues hat.
Cut out several spots from the dark blue felt.
Sew each of the spots onto the blue sleeper or sweat suit.
Combine the sleeper or sweat suit with the hat and gloves to complete the costume.
