Button Designs

You know all the buttons you get with new clothing that you have been saving? Well, I have another idea for you.

Take a plain shirt, maybe one that you want to add some style to. Create a design with your buttons. Once you have your design figured out, start sewing the buttons one. All you need to do is with a thread, go around each button a few times to hold it in place tie the back so it doesn't come loose and continue to the next button. You can cut the thread after you tie it at the end of each button or go on to sew the next button with the same thread.

You can decorate the shirt by colors of buttons. The sky is the limit on how your design turns out. You decorate it along the sides or around the top, or add a big design in the center.

This idea is inspired by my friends shirt that is absolutely adorable that she purchased.

Cheap books

The library has books for sell that they no longer want. There is usually a shelf in a back hidden corner with all the books and dvds they want to get rid of. Check your local library to see what they have for sale. The paperback books usually run about $0.10 and the hardback books are around $0.25. Sometimes you can find movies as cheap as $1.00 There are plenty of books and movies to keep your family and you entertained for cheap!

today's deals

Today I realized I need a perscription refill. I went to cvs to get my refill. While I was there I saw that the Freestyle life meters are free after a $9.99 rebate. I know someone who is diabetic and could use the meter so I got the strips. The meter is orginally $75.00 which shocked me that they marked it down to $9.99.

While I was there I checked out the clearance area, there was tons of stuff on clearance. Since I just lost my job I tried to avoid buying things I would never use. I found a packet of ziplock steamer bags that were clearance for $0.19! I got the only one they had left.

Before rebate paid $11.20
After the rebate, out of pocket expense will be $1.20, good deal!

Why would you use this? Maybe you want to sign up for a site which requires that you provide an e-mail address to send a validation e-mail to. And maybe you don't want to give up your real e-mail address and end up on a bunch of spam lists. This is nice and disposable. And it's free. Enjoy!

By clicking on the link below, you will be given a temporary e-mail address. Any e-mails sent to that address will show up automatically on the web page. You can read them, click on links, and even reply to them. The e-mail address will expire after 10 minutes.

Three years ago I got married. During the three years we have moved three times. Each apartment, I searched for the apartment. After each experience I realized there were amenities I wanted to that could help make my life easier. The apartment we ware in now, has almost all the amenities I wanted.

Here is how amenities help save you money.

Utilities included in cost:

If all utilities are included, you never had to pay more then what you rent is. If you do however how to pay for utilities, make sure it is something cheap like water. Electric and gas are two utilities you don't want to have to pay for. I know from experience.

Gym in complex:

If the complex has a gym, you can cut out the cost of gym memberships. It is also great because you never had to leave your building to get a workout. The hours are usually convenient. Some are even open 24/7.

If your complex doesn't have a gym they usually offer a discount one a gym membership. I thought this was cool, because unless you ask, they usually don't tell. So The first 2 apartments we stayed at didn't have gyms but they both offered a discount at golds gym. The gym they provide a discount at usually is the closest gym to them.

Business center:

Business centers are so amazing. The one we have has 4 computers with internet access. Our business center allows unlimited printing, copying and faxing. All ink, paper, etc is provided. This saves you so much money on ink, paper. Even if you didn't want to invest in internet, you would have access to it for free.

Free Parking:

If you live in the city or work in the city, free parking is something you want. Especially if it is more convenient to take the metro/train/bus into work, you want a free place to park you car.

Access to metro/train/bus:

Location is everything. If you intend to take the metro/train/bus to save money on gas, being close to one helps. The closer your apartment, the less money you have to spend on gas, parking, etc.

Some apartments provide free shuttles to the metro/train/bus stop and even to the airport. This is a great amenity to have especially if you don't live right near where you want to be. This is also great when the weather is really bad.

Playground/Sports courts/pool:

Having access to the park or playground is a great way to save money on activities for the kids. You don't have to spend money driving to a location to entertain kids. Also, sports courts help save money as well. Kids don't have to sign up for sports centers to play when they have access to these thing in the comfort of their own complex. These include basket ball courts, tennis courts, swimming pool, volley ball court, etc. For those trying to save money on the gym membership, combine an outdoor sport with your workout routine.

Walking trails:

You never have to leave your area to go on a walk through a trail or even a hike if it is provided for you. The apartment we are currently in has a beautiful trail that has a bridge that goes over a river. It is awesome to walk through because although it is parallel to the highway, all you can hear is the water. It is peaceful. Sometimes you see deer out there roaming for wild raspberries.

Grocery stores:

Having grocery stores and other stores walking distance is great to. If you need anything you can get your exercise for the day while going to the store. All three apartments that we lived in had a grocery store walking distance. When I didn't have a car, this was awesome. Also, whenever I needed something from the store. The current apartment has a grocery store right in the building. This is amazing, because although it doesn't have everything, it is so covenient to just go downstairs and get what you want. There has been times I started cooking something and realized I was missing something cruital for the meal. I would just run downstairs get it, and then continue my meal. The result is a 5 min delay in mealtime instead of a lot longer.

There are some apartments that have a salon in the building. This isn't something that you couldn't live without, but it does save you travel time. Also, you don't feel bad going to salon in your pj's.

party room:

Our building doesn't have one of these, but our friend's building does. During the debates we would reserve the room and watch it down there. It is usually free for the residents or there is a small fee that is returned to you once room is returned clean. We have utilized this many times for random events. If you have a lot of gatherings this is something to consider looking for in an apartment building.

As I was looking through my purse, it got me thinking, man I have a lot of crazy things in my purse. So I figured I would start a discussion on what is in your purse? Please post a comment on this discussion letting us know what you have in your purse. It will be interesting to see what the wackiest thing you have in your purse is.

I am sorry I have been slacking. My work has been crazy for the last few weeks and finally they laid me off on Friday. I was a little bummed at first but now I am ready to do all the things I never got around to because of work. I started off my weekend with a few hours of organizing a coupon notebook. I will post that when it is finally ready to be I have never had a coupon notebook, I don't use coupons as much as I should probably because they weren't organized in a way I could use them. I am still searching for all the sizes of the clear sheets so i can fit all my coupons, target and staples don't have all the sizes, how sad! Anyways I hope to pay more attention to the blog with my new found freedom. Also, I hope to cut down my expenses to live within in one person income household. I also will be finding anything and everything that is FREE! So, keep and eye out to see how I work out life without a job, or at least until I find a new one.

Saturday, June 13, 2009

So, I have in a long time posted any of my good deals. Part of that is that I just haven't been going to the mall or anywhere for that matter. I have been relying on what items I have at home and buying very little items. I am sure I saved money since I wasn't buying. It is amazing after weeks of going through my piles of food, I still don't have to buy more then, eggs, milk, and bread!

Anyways, back to the reason I started this post. I went to JCP yesterday and wanted to share my awesome deal with you. So JCP sent out a coupon last week for $10 of $10. I went to use it yesterday because I didn't think I would use it any other time. I have 2 weddings plus a party to go in Aug. So I figured I would check out prom dresses. Now these are pakistany weddings which means people dress extremely formal. I needed a prom looking dress to fit in. Now since prom is over, all the dresses were on clearance. At JCP, Dresses were on clearance for $19.97. I found the perfect dress and went to the register. As she was ringing me up, it rang up at $15.98 (had an extra percentage off) sweet! I thought $20 was a great deal. I pulled out my $10 off coupon and the price became $5.98 and after tax $6.34. I just wont a gift card at an event I attended a few weeks ago, so I didn't pay a cent out of pocket.

Original price for the dress is $200.00 (I am dead serious!)
Total savings on the dress was $194.02 =-O

I am going to try to put a picture of the dress or my receipt as soon as I get a chance, so keep an eye out for that!
I used a gift card making this absolutely free. If you have great deals like this on clothing please feel free to share. I always love hearing a good deal.

I Love getting free movies to watch. You too can enjoy free movies with your child's report cards. Update: A nearby blockbuster in my area says "Blockbuster supports local schools with its “Good Grades, Free Rentals” program, providing free movie and game rentals to children, grades 1-8, who maintain A and B averages."

Mead Money Madness points

Collect Mead Money Madness points and redeem various items ( even Amazon GC). I purchased a mead notebook and on it, it said that you could collect points to redeem for things. They have a few GC and some other cool things.
You have to go through the site and search for the icons that let you know you will get points for viewing that section (see attachment). Look in wiki for FAQ's.

Mead Money Madness® is a points program that rewards you for all your eligible Mead purchases and for spending time right here. First you earn the points, and then you can exchange them for all sorts of rewards.

Two Ways to Earn Points

1. Look for the Mead Money Madness tag on the Mead® products you buy to find out how many Mead Money Madness points you can earn. Enter the UPC online and we’ll add the points to your account. Save your receipts – you’ll need them to claim your rewards.

2. You’ll also score points for doing certain things on this Web site. So when you play a game, take a poll, create a quiz, view a demo or download a template, look for the Mead Money Madness points value. You can use these points to get rewards, too.

Can I earn Mead Money Madness points on the site, or do I have to always buy products?

Yes, you can earn 9,270 points from July through February (1,450 points per full calendar month) by participating in certain activities on this Web site. These points can be exchanged for reward items and they do not require receipts for redemption. Receipts are only required for the points you add to your UPC bank, from the purchase of Mead products. For more information, please see the Terms & Conditions.

Get Your Rewards
Now that you’ve racked up a pile of Mead Money Madness points from all the eligible Mead products you bought and all the time you spent on this Web site, it’s time for the fun part. Click here to see all the fun and useful gear you can grab with your points. Select the rewards you want and redeem your points. It’s easy! If you are going to buy school supplies/work supplies anyways, might as well get the points to get free items.

In thinking of my post yesterday about free food for good grades, I thought of McDonald's. My little brother, loves McDonald's. If he could eat it everyday, he would. So as I was playing telling him about free tokens at Chuck E. Cheese, I imagined him saying, "What about McDonald's?" So for all those who have little ones just like my little bro, here you go.

If your child has straight A's, he or she can get a free happy meal. I am not sure if they will give you a happy meal if it isn't a straight A report card, but I do think it is worth checking out. Please let us know, if it does/doesn't work.

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

So report cards are coming in soon. A great way to reward your kids is a trip to Chuck E. Cheese. When you bring your report card in, children are rewarded for good grades with free tokens. I believe you get up to 15 token per child and how many tokens are based on the letter grades. They do require a food purchase to get the tokens. I don't think they take your name so you can probably use your report card all summer long.

Please have the bowling center contact us at and we can explain the program with them.
What type of payments do you accept?

We gladly accept Visa, MC, and American Express.
Am I allowed to copy or alter the coupons?
